Fibroblast Skin Tightening FAQs

What is Fibroblast Skin Tightening?

Fibroblast Skin Tightening is a non-surgical treatment using a plasma pen device to rejuvenate skin. Plasma pen technology has been approved by the FDA, and is a safe treatment in the hands of a skilled and trained esthetician.

The plasma pen works by delivering small pulses of nitrogen-based plasma to the skin via a hand piece. Within the hand piece, a direct high frequency generator excites inert nitrogen gas, which is converted into activated ionized gas called plasma. This plasma-containing energy is directed through a nozzle out of the tip of the hand piece and onto the skin.

The energy delivered produces a heating action that works at the skin’s surface to treat old photo-damaged epidermal cells and promote collagen reorganization and growth. Nothing touches the skin except the pulse (blast) of the plasma. This is a bloodless, non-surgical treatment.

Results can be both immediate and progressive.

Clinical studies show that improvement progression continues for at least 6 months after treatment.

How Does Fibroblast Work?

As we age, the appearance and quality of our skin changes. The epidermis becomes thinner, so blemishes become more visible, and collagen in the dermis is gradually lost which contributes to the formation of facial lines, sagging skin and wrinkles.

Fibroblast Skin Tightening technology uses energy delivered from a plasma pen rather than light or radio frequency to rejuvenate the skin. The tiny dots left behind by the plasma pen stimulates collagen and elastin as the skin heals the tiny dots.

It’s interesting to note that compared to other skin regeneration modalities (i.e. laser, radio frequency, IPL), plasma renewed skin is super healthy and full of naturally hydrating hyaluronic acid.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

Treatment protocols for excessively saggy areas call for two to four treatments, however many clients are happy with results from just one.  Although all treatments improve fine lines, wrinkles, tone, texture and sun spots, skin tightening is more pronounced with 2 or more treatments.

Who is Suitable for Fibroblast Skin Tightening?

Fibroblast Skin Tightening is gentle enough for any skin type and for all skin Fitzpatrick levels. It is best performed during the early signs of aging such as:

  • Sagging jawline (jowls)
  • Loose skin
  • Creasing around the nose and mouth
  • Wrinkling around the nose and mouth
  • Saggy neck
  • Loose skin on décolleté
  • Droopy or hooded eyes

What Should the Entire Treatment Include?

  • Full consultation to determine health of skin and areas of concern, client goals and treatment plan.
  • Pretreatment photos to use as a gauge for progress/results.
  • A topical anesthetic cream applied 30 minutes under LED before treatment starts.
  • Treatment with a plasma pen to desired areas. NOTE: A localized sensation of heat will be felt.
  • Client leaves with aftercare instructions and should be advised to use red LED nightly to expedite healing.
  • Follow up via texted photos and telephone the first week.
  • In person visit after one week to assess recovery.

Post-Treatment and Recovery

The Fibroblast Skin Tightening treatment will cause redness of the skin, in addition, the tiny dots turn brown and shed or flake for 5-7 days after treatment.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Instruct client NOT pick at this skin to avoid scarring.

Selling your client a Fibroblast Healing Pack is a good idea, along with these instructions:

Instruction for using a  Fibroblast Healing Pack.

Kit contains: Just Say Ahh (a gentle PH balanced cleanser), NeoGenesis Recovery 10mL (speeds healing of scabs), Glow Younger TriLight LED (stimulates ATP), and Aquaphor (protects against infection but allows your skin to breathe).

CAUTION: Allow them to fall off naturally. Pulling or picking SCABS may cause you to scar.

Just Say Ahh cleanser is a botanical formula that is very gentle. Wait 24 hours after treatment to wash. Wash morning and evening. With this product you only need a tiny dot (size of dime). Using too much will have a drying effect. Apply a tiny dot to your CLEAN wet hands, rub hands together and then apply to a damp face in GENTLE circular movements. Rinse with lukewarm water (NEVER HOT). Gently pat dry (do NOT rub) with clean towel or clean soft washcloth.

Apply NeoGenesis Recovery to clean damp skin morning and night right after cleansing. Allow to dry, about 30 seconds is all it should take. NeoGenesis Recovery is specially formulated to treat injured skin and aid in the healing process. A couple drops for entire face in a thin layer. using a patting method instead of rubbing so as not to force scabs off.

Aquaphor - Apply after Recovery. Use a tiny bit by gently smoothing over treated area, after you apply Recovery.  Be gentle! Aquaphor is #1 dermatologist recommended ointment, formulated with 41% petrolatum to allow oxygen to flow and help heal the skin, protects with panthenol and glycerin to moisturize, nourish and protect the skin to enhance healing, preservative and fragrance free. The kit includes just enough to get through the first week after treatment.

Glow Younger TriLight is LED light therapy at its best. Client will begin Red LED light therapy each evening beginning 24 hours after treatment, and then nightly until scabs fall off naturally. Scabs usually start falling off about 3 – 5 days following the treatment. Continue Red LED every other night until all redness is gone. Use Red LED on clean, dry skin.

NOTE: After scabs fall off and it is tolerable, please use Sunscreen when outdoors or driving.

During the healing phase and for several months after treatment, it is recommended to protect the treatment area using a moisturizing sunblock with an SPF 50+. Protective clothing and wide-brimmed hats should also be used.

What are the Side Effects or Complications?

Fibroblast Skin Tightening is very well tolerated by most clients. In most cases, clients return to work about 3-5 days after treatment.

The plasma pen is so delicate and precise, no adverse side effects have been reported. However, scarring is possible if client fails to follow instructions NOT to pick at tiny dots (scabs).

Naturally occurring side effects are:

  • Scaling, peeling and some crusting
  • Redness and swelling for up to one week after treatment – this can be eased by using the LED nightly for 30 minutes. Without the use of LED, redness can persist up to 2 – 4 weeks after treatment and can be covered with makeup as it fades.
  • Temporary hyperpigmentation
